Corinthia Hotel St Petersburg
This plush, award-winning five-star is an exercise in stately opulence, set on St Petersburg’s most illustrious street, Nevsky Prospect. It combines luxurious furnishings and highly professional service with a slew of amenities such as a restaurant, bar and spa, and a 2018 refurbishment added new rooms and suites.
Location
9 / 10
The hotel’s location on the famous Nevsky Prospect boulevard puts it slightly outside the historic centre but well within striking distance of many major cultural attractions as well as a lot of shops, restaurants and bars. The Hermitage Museum, St Isaac’s Cathedral and the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood are around two miles away; the Russian Museum around a mile.
The Mayakovskaya metro station is a five-minute walk north of the hotel, and the main railway station is a 10-minute walk away.
Style and Character
9 / 10
The Corinthia’s opulence is clear from the immense lobby, with its dramatic chandeliers and columns, long reception desk and large, colourful and stylish sofas and armchairs for lounging. The lobby also contains the small but well-stocked bar, and a sweeping staircase that leads up to the first-floor restaurant and meeting rooms. Rooms are slightly more demure in their colour schemes, but no less sumptuous.
Service and Facilities
9 / 10
From the top-hatted doorman to the black-uniformed reception and concierge, staff here are professional, efficient and polite, as well as multilingual. Services include a free visa service, dry cleaning and laundry, car (and limousine) hire and more. On the eighth floor is a fully-equipped health club with 24-hour gym facilities and a solarium with a pleasant roof terrace giving excellent views of the city.
For business guests there are 17 multifunctional meeting rooms, the option to rent laptops, and a very dapper Executive Club Lounge that overlooks Nevsky Prospect and feels more like a private restaurant than a corporate bolthole. There are also secure parking facilities within the hotel complex.

Rooms

The unveiling of 162 new rooms and suites in 2018 brought the number of rooms up to 282. The older spaces are modern and plush, stylish and quiet, with neutral beige and cream colour schemes and a swathe of comfortable mod cons, while the newer ones have slightly more elegant blue and grey schemes.
All have Corinthia’s own brand beds (very comfortable), LCD televisions with over 70 channels and amenities such as decent-sized working desks, pillow menus and marble bathrooms with separate showers and tubs plus bathrobes, slippers and high-end cosmetics. Executive King rooms are large and quiet with views of the inner courtyard. Deluxe Family rooms, which come as either doubles or twins, have pull-out sofa beds and cots (on request) free of charge. Suites get coffee machines and the best views over Nevsky Prospect.
Food and Drink

Michelin-starred Imperial Restaurant overlooks the Nevsky Prospect. It has white walls and light-green interiors (chairs, curtains, sofas) and a menu of Russian and Mediterranean dishes such as venison pelmeni (dumplings) with wild mushrooms and lingonberry compote, and roast Murmansk cod fillet with buttered spinach and saffron aioli, olives and capers.
It also serves a delicious and varied breakfast with a range of hot dishes (meat pancakes, chicken sausages, bacon and eggs) plus cereals, fruits, juices, breads and pastries. The downstairs lobby bar has live jazz (usually a guitarist or piano) on Fridays and Saturdays, and the Café Vienna serves pastries and a wide selection of teas and coffees, plus lunch and dinner.
